History of the Faculty of Dentistry

History of the Faculty of Dentistry

Dental education was introduced in the University of Szeged in 1960. The education today takes place at the Faculty of Dentistry, which is the regional center for dental and maxillofacial care in the south-eastern region of Hungary. The School of Dentistry was transformed into the Faculty of Dentistry in 2007.

The English-language dental program was launched in tha academic year of 2004/2005. The five-year program is designed to unify the basic and clinical sciences, as it is believed that scientific and professional development cannot be sharply separated but should proceed throughout the program. After a successful completion of the program students are awarded the title Doctor Medicinae Dentaire (dentist; DMD)

Teaching is performed at the departments of the Medical and Dental Faculties. The Dental Faculty has approximately 30 graduates each year. It also educates specialists in Orthodontics, Pediatric Dentistry, Periodontology, Operative Dentistry and Prosthodontics, Dentoalveolar Surgery and provides PhD program in dentistry for future scientists.
