Although this is not the first time that a workshop has been organized in Hungary on tobacco smoking in the Central and Eastern European region, but I am convinced that it is now more timely than ever.

The health and financial costs of tobacco smoking are well-known, and governments in the region are beginning to realize that anti-tobacco legislation is one way to reduce those costs. For us, oral health professionals, the damage done by smoking is an everyday experience, and I believe it is our responsibility to do our share in making our region a smoking-free area. Of course, that will take some time, but what is a better way to start, than meeting international professionals of the field and getting involved in a scientific dialogue?
